About the ESL Department
Bina Bangsa School is establishing a new English as a Second Language (ESL) Department, separate from the mainstream school, designed specifically to support expatriate students who require additional English language development before or alongside their academic studies.
This department will provide intensive English language instruction and academic language support to help students succeed in subjects such as English, Science, and Mathematics. The program will serve students from Primary, Secondary, and Junior College levels.
As the program is designed to accelerate English acquisition, the department will operate on a non-academic calendar, meaning classes may also run during school holidays to provide continuous learning opportunities.
Position Overview
Bina Bangsa School is seeking an experienced and visionary Head of ESL Department to lead the development and implementation of this new program. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing a comprehensive ESL curriculum, establishing academic standards, and building a strong team of ESL educators.
The Head of Department will play a key leadership role in shaping the structure, teaching methodology, and learning outcomes of the ESL program while ensuring alignment with the school’s academic expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement a comprehensive ESL program for Primary, Secondary, and Junior College students
- Develop curriculum, assessment frameworks, and learning resources for ESL learners
- Lead and manage the ESL teaching team
- Ensure students receive strong support in academic English, including English for Science and English for Mathematics
- Monitor student progress and implement effective language development strategies
- Collaborate with school leaders and academic departments to support student transition into mainstream classes
- Ensure the program maintains high academic standards consistent with the school’s international profile
- Teach ESL classes as part of the role
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English Education, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in ESL or English language education
- Previous leadership or program development experience is strongly preferred
- Experience teaching in international schools is an advantage
- Strong understanding of academic English and language acquisition
- Ability to design and lead an intensive language learning program
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of Chinese language is preferred, as many students may come from Chinese-speaking backgrounds
